Bible Study

God created us to have an interactive relationship with Him. Our primary focus in the relationship is to connect with God and stay connected with Him. In previous articles, I've been discussing with you the importance of prayer. Prayer is certainly a vital activity that helps us stay connected with our heavenly Father. As long as we are connected to Him, He will transform our hearts in order that we may become like Jesus.

Imagine being the kind of person who points out the successes of others and promotes their wellbeing rather than promoting yourself. Think about being a person who gives praise and credit to others rather than seeking to receive credit from people. What if we became a person that prays for our enemies rather than condemning them? Or how about being someone who is more likely to give up power rather than taking control of it? As God changes our hearts, we can be like Jesus. We actually become kind, gentle, tenderhearted, patient, compassionate, and conscientious. We become someone that our families and friends are thrilled about being in a relationship with.

One of the most important ways to keep connected with God is to immerse ourselves in studying His word, the bible. Scripture is from the very breath of God. It reveals His person, nature, and character to us. Taking in the very breath of God's essence through scripture can radically transform us.

Bible study is much more than gathering information or facts. It is actually communicating with God. He is speaking to us, giving us the things we need for life. A.W. Tozer once said,

The Bible is not only a book which was once spoken, but a book
which is now speaking... If you would follow on to know the Lord,
come at once to the open Bible expecting it to speak to you.
Do not come with the notion that it is a thing which you can push
around at your convenience.

God's word is to be completely absorbed into our hearts. We must allow God to speak to us. We must listen carefully to what He is saying to us through His word. In order to allow God's word to penetrate our hearts we must read with that purpose in mind, rather than simply getting in our daily requirement, or keeping our reading schedule. Try praying before you read, read, meditate on what you've read, read it again, meditate again, read it again, and pray about what you've read. It may also be helpful to write down your thoughts about how what you've read speaks to your heart. Absorb God's word into your soul.
